What it's worth when you sell
The RCM's table lists 92.5% silver 1908-1910 (5.81 g) and 1910-1919 (5.83 g), 80% silver 1920-1952 (5.83 g, 23.62 mm) and 1953-1967 (5.83 g, 23.88 mm), 50% silver/50% copper 1967-1968 (5.05 g, 23.88 mm) and nickel from 1968 (5.05 g). The 5.05 g given for the 50% coin is identical to the nickel coin's weight, and Krause, NGC and Numista give 5.83 g instead; NumisView gives 5.08 g. The conflict is not resolved. The RCM calls the 1967 animal a bobcat; Numista calls it a Canadian lynx.
Common dates usually sell to dealers for around their melt value; scarce dates, mint marks and coins in top condition can be worth much more. For a valuable-looking coin, check a price guide or have it graded before selling.
