How silver is priced in Türkiye
In Turkey, the price people search for most is gram gümüş, the lira price of one gram of fine silver, alongside the ons (troy ounce) price in dollars and the kilo price used in wholesale trade. Banks also offer silver accounts denominated in grams of 1000/1000 silver. The figures on this page are the international spot price converted to Turkish lira. They do not include dealer spreads, workmanship or KDV on silver articles.
KDV on silver: bars vs jewellery
Deliveries of bullion silver (külçe gümüş) are exempt from KDV under Article 17/4-g of the KDV Law No. 3065. For jewellery and silverware made of silver, the KDV base is not the full price. Tax authority rulings confirm that the base is the sale price minus the value of the bullion silver it contains, so the general 20% KDV rate effectively falls on the workmanship and margin. This is why a silver bar and a silver bracelet of the same weight are taxed very differently. Ask for an invoice that shows the silver value and the workmanship separately.
Borsa İstanbul and how dealers price silver
Silver trades on the Borsa İstanbul Precious Metals and Precious Stones Market, where standard silver must be at least 99.9% pure and bars range from 1 g to 500 g, plus 1 kg ingots. Imports of standard precious metals are only allowed through the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye and exchange members authorised to trade on that market. Borsa İstanbul also publishes monthly silver import data, which hit record levels in January and February 2026 as demand surged. Dealers in Kapalıçarşı and elsewhere price gram gümüş from the dollar ounce price and the lira exchange rate, and add a spread.
Purity and assaying
Investment silver is 999 fine (has gümüş), while most jewellery is 925 sterling silver, usually stamped "925". Private assay houses (ayar evleri) that analyse precious metals and issue assay reports are authorised and audited by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance under a communiqué published on 10 March 2022. For silver they must use volumetric titration under TS ISO 13756, and audit checks allow a tolerance of ±2 parts per thousand.
