How silver is priced in Nepal
In Nepal silver is quoted per tola (11.664 g) and per 10 grams, alongside fine and tejabi gold, in the daily rates of the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers' Association (FENEGOSIDA). The figures here are the international spot price converted to rupees, before customs duty and making charges, so the Nepali market rate is higher.
Customs duty on silver
The 2026/27 budget, presented on 29 May 2026, raised customs duty on silver by 10 percentage points to 20%, matching the new rate on gold. The silver rate rose by about Rs 305 per tola on the next trading day. Because the duty is a percentage, it widens the gap between the Nepali rate and converted spot as world prices rise.
The FENEGOSIDA silver rate
FENEGOSIDA publishes buying and selling rates for silver each morning with its gold rates. Silver prices in Nepal move with the international price and the rupee, which is pegged to the Indian rupee, so Nepali silver tends to track Indian silver prices. Shops add making charges (jyala) on jewellery.
How silver is used
Silver is bought for jewellery such as anklets and bracelets, for ritual and puja items, and as gifts at weddings and during Tihar, when Dhanteras is a traditional day to buy precious metals. Most jewellery is sterling (925) or lower; ask for the purity and weight on the bill and use the calculator above to check the metal value.
