How silver is priced in Bangladesh
Bangladesh quotes silver the way it quotes gold: per vori (bhori) of 11.664 grams, in grades labelled 22K, 21K and 18K (91.6%, 87.5% and 75% silver) plus a lower traditional grade. The figures on this page are the international spot price converted to taka, before VAT, making charges and shop margins.
BAJUS silver rates
The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) publishes per-vori selling prices for 22K, 21K, 18K and traditional silver alongside its gold rates. Silver rates are revised much less often than gold rates — they can stay unchanged for weeks while gold moves — so the BAJUS price can drift away from the live international price shown here.
VAT on silver
Until June 2026 silver jewellery carried 5% VAT on the selling price. The FY2026–27 Finance Act replaced it with a flat VAT of Tk 100 per vori of silver, after jewellers objected to an initial proposal to tax silver at the gold rate of Tk 2,500 per vori. When BAJUS switched gold to VAT-inclusive prices on 18 June 2026, silver was left out, so check whether a shop's silver price includes VAT.
Bringing silver in and buying tips
Under the Baggage Rules 2025, passengers can bring up to 200 g of silver jewellery duty-free once a year. Silver is bought mainly as jewellery — anklets, bangles and wedding pieces — rather than as bars. Ask for the grade (22K, 21K or 18K), weight and making charge on the receipt, and use the calculator above with the matching purity.
