How silver is priced in Vietnam
Vietnamese dealers quote silver in dong per lượng (37.5 g) for small 999 bars and per kilogram for larger bars, each with a buying (mua vào) and a selling (bán ra) price. The figures here are the international spot price converted to dong: the metal value before dealer premiums and spreads.
How silver is sold in Vietnam
Unlike gold, silver has no national bar brand and no state licensing of bar production. Jewellery and bullion companies make and sell 999 silver bars (bạc miếng, bạc thỏi) in sizes such as 1 and 5 lượng, 500 g and 1 kg, and publish their own prices, which follow the dollar spot price and the exchange rate. Investment demand rose sharply as world silver prices surged in 2025: domestic prices rose more than 20% in the month to early October 2025.
Tax on silver
Businesses trading gold, silver and gems pay VAT by the direct method, at 10% of their margin between selling and buying prices, so the tax is built into the price you pay rather than added at the till. Silver jewellery and silverware are taxed the same way. The 0.1% tax on transfers in the 2025 Personal Income Tax Law is aimed at gold bars, not silver.
Purity and buying tips
Investment bars are 999 fine; jewellery is usually 925 sterling silver (bạc 925). The gap between a dealer's buying and selling price is wider for silver than for gold, so check the buyback price before you buy, keep the invoice, and compare prices per gram of fine silver across bar sizes. Silver is also bulky: a kilo bar is worth far less than a lượng of gold.
