Silver Mine Production by Country
World silver mine production was about 26,000 tonnes (836 million oz) in 2025, a USGS estimate, up 2.8% from 25,300 t in 2024. Mexico mined the most (6,300 t, 24.2% of the world), followed by Peru 3,600 t and China 3,400 t. The United States produced 1,100 t (8th). Known reserves of 610,000 t would last about 23 years at that rate.

Silver Production: FAQ
Which country produces the most silver?
Mexico, with about 6,300 tonnes in 2025 (24.2% of world mine output), according to the US Geological Survey. Next were Peru 3,600 t and China 3,400 t.
How much silver is mined each year?
About 26,000 tonnes in 2025 (836 million oz), the USGS estimate. Since 2020 world output has ranged from 23,500 to 26,000 tonnes a year. At the 2025 average price that is worth about $33.5 billion.
How much silver is left in the ground?
The USGS puts world silver reserves at about 610,000 tonnes, roughly 23 years of mining at the 2025 rate. Reserves are only the deposits that can be mined profitably today with known methods; they grow when prices rise or new deposits are proven, so this is not a countdown to running out.
How much silver does the United States produce?
About 1,100 tonnes of mine production in 2025, 8th in the world. Alaska is the leading silver-producing state, followed by Nevada, and much US silver comes as a by-product of gold and base-metal mines.
Where do these figures come from?
From the US Geological Survey's Mineral Commodity Summaries, published each year in late January or early February. Each edition gives the latest year as an estimate and revises the year before, so we use the newest edition for every year. Smaller producers are grouped as "other countries", and the list of named countries changes between editions. Shares, changes, reserve life and dollar values are our calculations.

Each year is taken from the newest edition that covers it: 2020 from MCS 2022, 2021 from MCS 2023, 2022 from MCS 2024, 2023 from MCS 2025, 2024 from MCS 2026, 2025 from MCS 2026.
