How silver is priced in Bahrain
In Bahrain silver is priced in dinars per gram for jewellery and silverware and per kilo or per bar for bullion. The dinar is pegged to the US dollar (BHD 0.376), so local silver prices follow the international price. The figures here are spot converted to dinars, before VAT, dealer premiums and making charges.
VAT on silver
Silver jewellery, silverware and other silver articles carry Bahrain's standard 10% VAT, charged on the full price including making charges. Silver of at least 99% purity that is tradeable on global bullion markets — in practice 999 bars and bullion coins — can be zero-rated as an investment metal, but the seller needs a purity certificate from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce's testing and metrology directorate or a licensed body to apply the zero rate. Sterling (925) pieces never qualify. Ask for a tax invoice that shows the purity and the VAT treatment.
Hallmarks
The Ministry's Metals Assay Centre tests and stamps precious metals. Bahrain's legal silver standards are 925 and 830, and silver is marked with a Delmon head symbol next to the fineness number (gold uses the Kingdom of Bahrain logo, platinum a camel). A 925 stamp means 92.5% silver, so its metal value is 92.5% of the fine-silver price on this page.
Buying silver
Silver is a small market next to gold in Bahrain. Bars from recognised refiners, typically 100 g to 1 kg, carry the lowest premium over spot and can be zero-rated; jewellery and silverware carry making charges and VAT, so their resale value is usually well below the purchase price. Compare a dealer's price with the live figure here and ask for the buy-back price before you buy.
