How the date is set
Contributions to a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) count for a tax year if they are made by the 60th day of the next year: 1 March, or 29 February in a leap year. When that day falls on a weekend the Canada Revenue Agency accepts contributions on the next business day, so the deadline was 2 March 2026 for the 2025 tax year and is 1 March 2027 for 2026.
The weeks before the deadline are RRSP season, when Canadian banks and brokers see most of the year's contributions. That is a calendar habit of savers, not something that moves the world price of silver, which is set in London, New York and Shanghai.
