Silver Allowance for Travellers to Canada

Silver bought abroad counts towards Canadian residents' personal exemptions: CAN$200 after more than 24 hours away (lost entirely if your goods are worth more) and CAN$800 after more than 48 hours. Silver bullion has no customs duty, and bars, ingots, coins and wafers of at least 99.9% silver are non-taxable imports for GST/HST. Silver jewellery pays 8.5% duty (free if made in the US or Mexico) plus GST/HST. The CAN$10,000 currency report does not cover silver.
