Silver Allowance for Travellers to Singapore
Silver bars of 99.9% purity or more, in the form of ingots, bars, wafers or coins that meet international standards, are investment precious metals and are exempt from GST. Travellers must declare all of them at the Red Channel, and a GST Relief Permit is needed if they weigh more than 0.5 kg in total. Silver jewellery and lower-purity silver are ordinary goods: GST is charged above the import relief of S$500 (48 hours or more away) or S$100 (less than 48 hours). Work, student, dependant and long-term pass holders get no relief.
Reviewed October 2026 from official sources (listed below). Rules change — check with customs before you travel.

Investment silver is GST-free
Singapore treats investment silver like investment gold. Silver bars of 99.9% purity or higher, in the form of ingots, bars, wafers or coins that meet approved international standards, are investment precious metals (IPM) and exempt from GST. The purity test is stricter than for gold (99.5%).
Declare all IPM you carry to the checking officer at the Red Channel. No permit is needed if the total weight is 0.5 kg or less; above 0.5 kg you need a GST Relief Permit.
