Travelling with Silver to and from Qatar
Qatar sets no silver limit for travellers and has no VAT. Personal items and gifts are duty-free up to QAR 3,000 if they are for personal use and not commercial; above that, customs charges duty. Anyone entering or leaving Qatar with cash, bearer negotiable instruments, precious metals or precious stones worth QAR 50,000 or more in total must declare them, and Qatari customs guidance names silver alongside gold and platinum as a precious metal. These are the rules as of October 2026; check with Qatar's General Authority of Customs before you travel.

Does silver count towards QAR 50,000?

Deliberately not declaring can bring up to three years in prison and a fine of QAR 100,000 to 500,000 or twice the value (Law No. 20 of 2019, Article 80).
Personal items and gifts are duty-free up to QAR 3,000 under the GCC Common Customs Law; above that, precious metals are referred for duty. Qatar does not publish the duty rate on silver brought by travellers, and has no VAT.
Taking silver from Qatar to India, Pakistan or Bangladesh
Qatar publishes no limit on silver you take out, but the QAR 50,000 declaration applies on departure. The arrival country decides what you pay: India covers silver jewellery only within its shared jewellery allowance and charges duty on bars, and Pakistan and Bangladesh have their own limits. Keep your invoices.
